9/21 - Hurricane Rita and talk about group project

Today we learned about Hurricane Rita. In the course of 24 hours, its wind speeds nearly doubled to 140 mph, we will be watching it closely over the next few days.

We also read through Section 3.2 and 3.3 in your book. These sections were about the different types of maps that there were. The five that we talked about were:
1. Mercator Projections
2. Gnomonic Projections
3. Conic Projections
4. Road Maps
5. Topographic Maps

If you were absent, you need to read through this tonight. Your homework - due Monday - is to come up with a group project where you make one of these types of maps and present your map in class. Your group can be no more than 4 people and it can only be with people in your class. The assignment is worth 50 points. 35 points are the project itself, and 15 points are for the presentation. In the presentation, you describe your map, what the legend means (if you have a road map or topographic map, remember, you will need a legend), and advantages/disadvantages, etc. The more creative the better your grade will be.

The vocab for Ch 3 is due TOMORROW!!
