8/29 - Hurricane Katrina and Unit Conversions

Today we talked about Hurricane Katrina. The largest hurricane in a long time to hit land in the US. We spoke about how a hurricane forms, what causes a large storm to grow so big, and how the hurricane is measured. We also spoke about the low pressure at the center of the storm and what that means, and the counter-clockwise flow. Then we discussed why hitting New Orleans would be so bad, because it is below sea-level and the levies couldn’t hold a Cat 4-5 (direct hit).

Then we learned about unit conversions and dimensional analysis. We discussed how to convert from metric to non-metric units using conversion equations and conversion fractions. Then we worked on example problems.

**The homework on unit conversions that was going to be due tomorrow will not be due till WEDNESDAY!!
